In Violet Light: Track by Track by Gordon Downie

I worked very hard on this record, as did the rest of the guys, toiling in and around what Rick
Groen calls the "collective wisdom of committees." That said, on this album, I tried to honour the inviolate lights of my life.

Leave (4:00)

A guy walks into a bar.... no.... wait....

a baby bird is having a conversation with his mother about life and death....
he's asking questions.
"I dunno, but why suppose it's not the way it should be?" She answers, "Why
suppose when you can leave?" ....as if to say (paraphrasing Graham Greene)
"with a return ticket, all conflict is intellectual exercise"
She says this even with (as we learn in the bridge) her firsthand knowledge
of the afterlife.

Just another song about a mother trying to protect her child's illusions.
