We hope you are all doing well and getting out of the house once in a while now
that spring is here. We'll be getting out of the house and on tour soon - more
about that below.
We can now tell you our brand new record is called "In Between Evolution." IBE
will be available in Canada Tuesday June 29th and most likely the same day
in the US.
Thanks for supporting the first single "Vaccination Scar" at radio
and at www.puretracks. com where VS is the #1 downloaded track. We're working
on a very cool video treatment of Vaccination Scar, which we think you will
really like. Before it goes to television we'll make sure you have a sneak
peek of it at www.thehip.com - details to follow in another message.
The title for our 11th album comes from a painting by a young Canadian artist
from Kingston, Cameron Tomsett. Rob of course brought Cameron's work to our attention
and we all thought it was terrific and suited our latest recording. In Between
Evolution, the painting, is a collage-like work of 27 drawings combined. We invite
you to visit thehip.com to see a portion of the album art. We'll add a new piece

"How do you think the new album will be received by the public and the critics?"
I know the tempos are popped right up there, they are a lot faster. It's more
like a record we made called Road Apples, we made that in New Orleans and it
was on the heel of a tour. The instrumentation is pretty much the same as that,
there are no overdubs. [Adam] Kasper [the producer] would not really let us do
too much. As far as people reacting, like the critics, we really haven't been
a band this long to worry about that. If we look at it like we are fortunate
working musicians and get on the road and play, we are happy about that.
Tour Dates - here's what has been confirmed at this time.
July 10 - Ottawa Blues Festival
July 11 - Wasaga Beach Blues Fest
July 17 - Bayfest 2004, Sarnia, ON ( on
July 24 - Sudbury Blues Festival
Expect more dates in Canada and the US and Europe in time.

The new record is recorded and mixed. We had a great time making this album
and we are totally pleased with the results. While we still have a number
of things to do before presenting "As Yet Untitled" to you,
we wanted to let you know the long wait is nearly over. Stay tuned for
more record news as well as touring plans in the coming weeks.

On Monday, October 27 and Tuesday October 28, the boys
played a couple secret concerts at The Boot Pub in Whistler, BC. In one
of the smallest venues they've played in a decade, they hit the stage
as "The Fighter Fighters", and
treated some very lucky local residents to an amazing set, filled mainly with
new material, sprinkled with some of their favourites.
All proceeds from the shows were donated to aid in the
relief fund for the victims of the Rutherford Creek washout, which happened
in the area just before the shows took place.

Enjoy the holidays,
TTHDecember 10, 2002Dear Fans,
A number of you have asked about limited edition lithographs of Bobby's original artwork for In Violet Light. Not long ago 300 lithographs were prepared. Today there are 114 pieces remaining, each one is signed by Bobby. These final lithographs, which come with a certificate of authenticity, are now available for purchase at our merchandise store at Maple Music.
The lithographs are true copies of the original painting, a watercolour on coldpress 140 lb. paper measuring 65 centimeters by 25 centimeters (roughly 26 inches by 10 inches).
We are donating the proceeds from the sale of the lithos to the Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society's Boreal Forest Awareness Campaign.
Canada's Boreal Forest is a national and international treasure stretching from the rocky Atlantic coastline of Newfoundland to the wild mountain valleys of northern British Columbia and Yukon. It is one of the largest frontier forest areas left on the planet, a place where human activities have not yet fundamentally changed the nature of ecosystems.
CPAWS is a nationally focused conservation organization who has been instrumental in protecting Canada's wild spaces. They have eleven chapters, hundreds of volunteers and 20,000 active members. For more information about CPAWS see http://www.cpaws.org/borealEach lithograph is $110.00. If you are interested please go to
Have a great holiday season,
4, 2002Forest Edge
track released to The Hip ClubDear All,
As the year winds down we would like to thank
all our fans for supporting In Violet Light and for coming out to the
shows this year. You folks are great.
As a token of our appreciation we have placed
at The Hip Club another fine unreleased track from the In Violet Light
sessions. If you have In Violet Light and have registered at www.thehipclub.com go now to download Forest Edge.
Forest Edge was one of the first songs that we
got rolling for Violet. It came out of one of our main wood shedding
sessions, one of our first up in a tiny studio in Toronto. The song went
through a number of different incarnations over the months leading up
to our trip to the Bahamas - it was a rock n' roll number one day, a
folky thing the next. I really like the feel Hugh settled on at Compass
Point. I particularly love Robbie's slide playing in the final version,
a tip of the hat to George Harrison who passed away while we were recording.
In a lot of ways it stands as a tribute to him and it was a real difficult
choice leaving this one off the final record. It's great to know that
people can finally give it the listen I think it deserves. G.S.
If you don't have In Violet Light yet there are
now three unreleased In Violet Light session tracks available for download
once you register your THC membership card at www.thehipclub.com. The other unreleased tracks are Ultra Mundane and Problem Bears. For more information about The Hip Club go here.

We had a terrific time in Toronto. The shows, our Toronto fans and the weather was great. We're on our way to Denver for the shows Tuesday and Wednesday at the Gothic Theatre. These are the first western US shows on the tour and Wayne [http://waynemusic.com/] opens the shows from Denver to Seattle. Other shows this week include Vegas and Phoenix. We hope to see some of our Tucson fans at the Celebrity Theatre show on Saturday night. It's too bad we were not able to fit a Tucson show in this tour.

more shows on the In Violet Light tour. There are now second shows
in Victoria, BC and Amsterdam, Holland. The second Victoria show
at the Royal Theatre is on sale this Saturday, August 10th at 9:30

Western Canadian Tour News - First in Line
Ticket Access for THC MembersDear Fans,
After playing arenas and large outdoor festivals
in Canada for many years, we thought it would
be exciting for us and for you to perform in smaller, more intimate,
venues. There are a great many beautiful looking and sounding theatres
in Canada and we have always liked the idea of playing a good number
of them on one tour. This fall we are making it happen. In a number
of cities we will be performing multiple nights so as many of you as
possible will have a chance to see our show "up close and personal." The
Western leg of the tour will be announced first.
Shows in Ontario and Quebec will be announced
later in August.

Opening shows in America from June 26 in
Philadelphia to July 27 in Boston is Marc Copely. News from the Marc
Copely website [http://www.marccopely.com/] "He's
a survivor, who's learned how to chase down
his dreams and make them happen. His album
[Limited Lifetime Guarantee] tells the stories of his life, in songs
with vivid lyrics that ride escalating melodies into fist-pumping
choruses. Copely delivers this material with slashing guitar lines
and a raw, gutsy voice. It's a sound you won't forget: classic yet
contemporary, timely and timeless."
Opening shows in America from August 6 in
Denver to August 24 in Seattle is Wayne.
News from the Wayne website [http://waynemusic.com/] "Wayne
is from Birmingham. Based on their mesmerizing
debut album, Music on Plastic, you might
just as easily assume they are from Birmingham England, as their
actual home state of Alabama. The four-man group has crafted a multi-layered,
13-song tapestry that invites comparison with the work of such esteemed
Brit-poppers as Coldplay and Travis, not to mention fellow domestic
dream-weavers like R.E.M. and the Jayhawks."

THE TRAGICALLY HIP
sous les étoiles au Bourbon Street Nord
Alors... où serez-vous la fin de semaine de la St-Jean-Baptiste ? Plus précisément, samedi le 22 juin ? The Tragically Hip eux, seront au Bourbon Street Nord, à Ste-Adèle.
