My eighteenth birthday was spent in Ottawa, where upon leaving the restaurant where we celebrated, we realized we had more people that seats in the car. So I was placed in the trunk with a lovely young lady I had met all of two hours before. The half an hour car ride was somehow anything but awkward. We chatted about everything but our predicament. We made it out no worse for wear, albeit I never spoke with her again. The next day three of us made the long ride back to Hamilton to see the Hip perform their New Year's Eve Eve show. It was perhaps my third Hip show, and for the first time ever we heard 'Locked in the Trunk of a Car' live. My friends and I were floored and excited, and although I'm sure no one cared, we recited the story of how I spent the past night locked in the trunk of a car with a beautiful woman. It was a good birthday, and a good concert. Even though those were two completely separate events, they're one in my mind.
