The first time I ever heard The Hip, I was 16/17 & playing my guitar in my room when suddenly, my Dad, came rushing in. He wanted me to come check out this new band on MuchMusic he had been talking about recently. The video was for 'New Orleans is Sinking' and WOW was it ever amazing. The video, Gord, everything, it was 'hip'-notic. The song stayed stuck in my head for days afterward. I wanted the album so bad but the record stores were sold out, so I got Road Apples instead. Cordelia became my favorite song from that album. Anyways, I finally got the album, Up To Here but it wasn't until I had purchased Day for Night that The Tragically Hip became my favorite all-time Canadian Band. Coincidentally, they are tied with Tool and Led Zeppelin as my #1 favorite band. The Hip also comes with me on all my camping trips. There's something about the BC Rockies, my family, a Molson Canadian, a campfire, and The Hip playing on the getto that one just can't put into words. It's more of a feeling, felt. They represent all things Canadiana and, for some strange reason, they make me proud to be Canadian. Unfortunately, I have never been able to see them live. It is on my life's goals list to see them at least once before they retire (please God don't ever let that happened). So in the mean time guys, keep the music coming and I'll see ya the next time you make it out my way. I'll be the crazy fool, screaming like a giddy little schoolgirl off to the left. Thanks for all the great music.
