My Introduction to The Hip

I was 7 years old in the summer of 2000. It was that summer when I became obsessed with watching MuchMusic, especially MuchMusic Countdown every Friday night. It was one of those nights where I saw and heard The Tragically Hip for the first time. It was the classic music video for The Hip's hit song, My Music At Work. I immediately fell in love with the song. Week after week, I continued to watch Countdown to see this great video and watch Gord Downie's hilarious antics. Eventually, the video reached #1 on the Countdown, and repeated at the top spot again the next week. Bruce McCulloch went on to win a MuchMusic Video Award for Best Director for that video. It's still today one of my favourite videos to watch, especially of The Hip. Everytime I hear the song on the radio now I'm overwhelmed with a huge sense of nostaliga and Canadian patriotism. I credit that music video for introducing me to this great Canadian band that I've grown to love and will continue to love until I die. Thanks Hip for the great childhood memories!
