Road Trip to Grand Rapids

It was 1994 When James and I hopped in is car for my first Concert experience. I had worked all night at the racetrack in Toronto and all I could think of was the concert in Grand Rapids Mich. The plan was listen to all the hip albums released to date over and over and over again. The drive seemed to take for ever and the singing along with the greatest band ever never got any better. When we arrived in GR the first thing we did was find the venue then we bought a 24 of canadian For 12 bucks. We got a room in this little motel right across thestreet from the Orbit room for 28 bucks for 2 people what a deal. We drank the 24 with some people we met from Sarnia and then we went to the show. The inbreds opened for the Hip what a rocking band they were. I met so many canadians at this gig it was unreal i would have to say that 90% of the crowd were from Canada. When Gord and the boys came out on stage the crowd went nuts. James and I managed to get right up front and we stayed there allnight Taking turns going for beers. The only bad part was when some jerk threw my Hat on stage never to be seen again. When I heard nautical disaster for the first time I was blown away. After the show ended we went back and partied some more. The ride home to Toronto was More of the sining and playing every album over and over. Day for night Is my favourite Hip album till this day. I will never forget that road trip and the way it made My friendship With james even stronger. I have seen the hip many times at small clubs, outdoor venues and stadiums but the Orbit room is the one I will never forget. When james mooved to Vancouver a few years later I gave hip all my Hip tapes to listen to as he drove across Canada. Thank You Guys for all the years of rocking my life. Stuart Muirhead
