I had been to one or two Hip shows before this, always an excellent performance, but this was probably the most memorable. My buddy Birdman came to us (Weasel and Me) and said the Hip were playing a free benefit concert in Winnipeg. It didn't take much to convince us so we drove from Bulyea, SK after school Friday and drove the 7 hours to the Peg. Of course it was past midnight and we were quite goofy blitzed from the bevy's on the way (my girlfriend was dd) by the time we got to the Peg, and we couldn't find a vacancy anywhere. So after some debate we picked a parking lot of a motel somewhere near the industrial area of Winnipeg to sleep. Unfortunately the Honda Accord only slept two so Weasel and I slept on a bed of mulch between a row of elm trees and a chain link fence. Anyway, the next day we wen't to the Forks about noon, got to the front row and waited till around 6 or 7 p.m. and watched the Hip put on one of the best shows I've seen to date, along with 80,000 of our closest friends. My apologies to Bird and Weasel if I don't remember the story quite the way they do, it was the liqour and the heat.
