Saturday Night Live

I was lucky enough to be at the Saturday Night Live appearance by the Tragically Hip because my wife's best friend works for the show and it was an amazing and interesting overall experience. The reason they got on the show was because their biggest supporter, Dan Akroyd, was one of the hosts and he brought them along for the ride. From what I learned from my wife's friend, no one on the cast or most of the people who worked for the show knew who they were. When they were announced to play, all these Canadian flags started flying and people in the stands started going crazy. I am not Canadian but I found this to be just incredible because so many other Hip fans found a way to get into the show, many that I found out also knew someone who worked there. The plus of knowing someone who works for the show was that we were able to go to the post show party. I didn't get to talk to the whole band, but I did get to talk to Gord Downie. I was so excited I really don't remember much of the conversation, but I know I left extremely impressed by what a class act Gord Downie is when he thanked me by name at the end of our conversation. I was just this nobody fan and he meets a million people like me all the time. It was something very small but nevertheless made me a bigger fan. The last, and kind of funny part of the story happened a little bit after I talked to Gord. David Spade comes walking by me and stops to ask me who the guys in the back corner were. The reason he asked was because The Hip had more people talking to them at the party than any of the cast members from the show, and he didn't understand why. I told him that it was
