The Last Hip Concert

I wrote this poem the morning after seeing your last show. I hope you enjoy it. A lot of people have connected with it. The last Hip concert Last night we watched a man scream for help and there was nothing we could do but scream too He touched his hand to his head seemed to plead as if one of us could coax the tumour out might know the lyrics to the song that would pull the spider from his brain but all we could do was sing his words back to him I imagine him waking today maybe in his family house in Kingston in my dream his kids are little again they climb over their father relieved to have him home wonder why his head is ticking did you know we held hands Gordie that you’d sing lifeboats around my drowning that you helped me like a best friend that you always knew the right words to say how when you danced like a giant feral peacock it was a cure for bullies but we still had to laugh a bit because what else can you do when fear leaves the room life can be a horrible trick a constant magic show of misdirection but you took cancer on tour showed us this grinning smirking singing punk face of death reminded us how to live with purpose you always try to bring everyone up with you try to make sure our weakest can be given a path to strength you held us all last night and today we need to remember how to walk again *if you would like to see the video of this it’s at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BpV... thank you all for reading my poem
