Coming of Age

I'm not exactly certain of the date or the venue, but I think this show took place in the summer of 1993 with the very first Road Side Attraction tour. Midnight Oil, The Pursuit of Happiness and Daniel Langois were the other main acts and the show was at the base of an old ski hill on Mount McKay in Thunder Bay, Ontario. It was my first Hip show and, in spite of the foggy details about the date and location, my most memorable. I was 14, at the show with my friends, I had a cast on my arm and wrist from punching a chair out of anger and a few weeks before, I'd lost my father to cancer. This show was exactly what I needed. It was a total escape and seeing the Hip live after escaping into their music so many times was a truly surreal experience. I remember Gord's full white painter's overalls, his thick beard, and the unmatchable energy on the stage vividly. I've seen the band several times since, in venues in Thunder Bay, Duluth, MN, and Minneapolis. I now live in Winnipeg, MB and plan to be there to see them again, fully and completely...
