“We Want to Be It”, The Tragically Hip, 2012
A classic block and dot, this is the newest addition to the oeuvre that began in 1999. With many series now underway, I like to work in this style to gauge changes in approach to colour and texture.
This soaring track evokes intense emotions everytime it plays in my studio. I think it’s a powerful example of The Tragically Hip’s ability to intertwine life’s many great mysteries with sonic sensations to create an artifact that is both deeply sentimental and spiritually energizing.
Thank you for allowing me to share this painting and my appreciation of this music with you.
